Latest with PPDD: Co-founding the Asian Human Rights Academy (AHRA)
PPDD and CLRDC (Children’s Legal Rights Development Center together with 3 other Asian based regional organizations are convening to establish the Asian Human Rights Academy (AHRA) to promote human rights and democracy in Asia. AHRA will basically offer program courses on human rights and democracy to meet the needs of inter alia, legal practitioners, counselors working in international relief agencies, government and non-government organizations and students involved in human rights and democratic initiatives in Asia and in other parts of the world. The Academy is planned to be held annually in any countries in Asia. The working objectives of the academy is primarily to expand and deepen the knowledge and understanding on how international human rights tribunal operates and respond to address issues brought to them. It also aims to provide deeper understanding of the different human rights instruments and how these instruments are being amplified in the actual case laws decided by human rights tribunal and the domestic legal system. The academy shall likewise teach the course in the context of Asian political, cultural, economic and human rights situation. The founding members of the academy are currently on the process of conceptualizing and developing the framework and mechanisms how the academy will operate. It is being planned that the first academy will be held in the Philippines somewhat around 2nd week of July until 1st week of August of 2008. The founding members of the academy will definitely be posting additional and relevant information regarding the academy as it develops further.
